SFC #37: Basement and Backyard Olympics

Muhammad Ali, Jim Thorpe, Jesse Owens, Dick Fosbury, Mark Spitz, Michael Phelps, and now Mark Salamango.  Sure the others were athletes.  BUT…they focused on one sport.  SFC 37 gave me the opportunity to showcase the fact that not only am I an athlete, I’m a multisport athlete.  Winning Scorched Earth was a great victory, but coming home with the SFC Olympic Crown was the ultimate in achievement.

Sure Terry won the Trivia event.  Taking second in that one was part of the plan.  Let the others “think” they were within striking distance.  Same with Darts.  Second place was fine.  I knew my events were coming.  Badminton, washers, and shuffleboard.  All solid sports I excel at.  Golf, meh.  I knew where I stood.  It was all about finishing strong, and finishing is what I do well.

After several nukes, baby nukes, and rollers, the competition was no match.  They tasted defeat and yet, we remain friends.  That’s what SFC is about.  Beat each other and saddle up for the next event.  Here’s to 38.

What a perfect Saturday weather-wise to enjoy the outside with the brethren.  #37 was a lot of fun.  The events were well selected and very inspirational.  I’d love to throw something like this at my house sometime…maybe a swinging from the trees adventure.  I particularly liked the shuffleboard, because I excelled at it…but then I blew it at the end.  The food was stupendous as well.  I ate so many dates I nearly shit my pants on the way home.

The Olympic motto is “Citius, Altius, Fortius.” These three Latin words mean ” Swifter, Higher, Stronger.”  How does this translate to the SFC Olympics?   When I think about Higher, I remember that you probably shouldn’t throw the darts “higher” than the dartboard unless you are the host country.  When I think about Swifter, it doesn’t matter how swiftly you swing a badminton racquet, if the sun is in your eyes you will completely miss the shuttlecock.   Lastly is Stronger…   A nuke is stronger than a baby nuke, a heavy roller is stronger than a roller, a missile is stronger than a baby missile.  Unfortunately if you don’t kill anyone in Scorched Earth all you can afford is a smoke tracer which is really weak!!!
