SFC #39: Tennis at Fish Hatchery Park in Northville, Deadwood Grill for dinner/drinks

The knees are a bit older, the shoulder comes out of its socket from time to time, there is less pace on the ball, but damn is tennis still fun.  It turns out, we’re still competitive too.  Thankfully, no tendons were snapped, no hamstrings were sprung, and no spectators were injured in another successful get together with some of the best blokes this side of the Mississippi.  Oh, and I guess our eyesight isn’t what it once was because clearly that serve WAS IN TERRY!

I was hoping I’d play like Lendl or Becker, but instead it was more like Agassi – on crystal meth. Foot faults were not my problem. In fact, in order to get a serve in I had to stand 4 or 5 feet behind the baseline. I’m adaptable. I communicated extremely well though, as any doubles partner should. “Help!”  “Help again!”  “That one’s yours!”  My partner always knew when he was needed. If not for Greg’s weak bladder we would have pulled out a major comeback in the final match. And that tomato bisque. Man that was good. On to #40. Ball’s in your court Mark.

For once I had an event planned well in advance.  First Marko drops out needing to visit the 24 hour dentist, then work throws a wrench in my plans causing last minute scrambling.  Luckily this isn’t our first rodeo with these boys…  The ability to call audibles last minute and still have great events is amazing.  What was supposed to take place in Royal Oak was moved to Northville…   Fish Hatchery park on Monday night is the place to be apparently.   I believe the last time the 4 of us have been on a tennis court at the same time might have been the “make it happen” years!   Remarkably enough though, we all played pretty well especially since some still have their high school racquets…  Some still foot faults (like in high school) as well.

Not too many aches, pulls, strains or sore muscles the next morning either.  Marko though is sunburnt from the dentist?   We may have produced the best autorap yet?!?!   Why would Lisa Brandt wear that to the reunion?

Tom probably still doesn’t have any “likes” for his ignorant FB rants either.
